Jan Dhont and David Dumont recently gave an interview to Nymity on the new data retention obligations for electronic communication providers in Belgium.
In the interview Jan and David explain the legal background and scope of the new legislation, the exact information which needs to be retained by electronic communication providers, the retention period, the information security and reporting obligations, as well as the penalties in case of non-compliance. Furthermore, Jan and David also compare the Belgian data retention legislation with the European Directive it implements and recommend certain compliance steps which electronic communication providers can take to be prepared for the entry into force of their data retention obligations on October 9, 2014.
