Frédéric Dopagne will sit on panel at a conference of the Belgian Society of International Law (SBDI) on March 15, 2011, and make a presentation on the concept of direct effect of international law in Belgian case law. The concept of direct effect is central in the invocation of rules of international law before national courts. However, its definition as well as its use in some types of proceedings call for a critical analysis and re-assessment.
This conference forms part of a cycle of four conferences organized by the SBDI on the general theme of the relationship between Belgian domestic law and international law. See the full program of the conferences, in French and in Dutch.
